TRAINING NOTES
The scent is very productive - put a few drops on both sides of the dummy (dummy with or without fur) and rub lightly. This process should be repeated before each training session. It has proven helpful to mark different dummies with different scents. Scents can already be used with hunting dog puppies.

Exercise: Drag
A dummy prepared with scent is attached to a leash or string and dragged through the terrain. At the beginning of the training, the vegetation should be just high enough so that the dummy is not visible to the dog at the end of the drag. Keep the first drags short and show the dog the marked approach. Slowly increase the distance, the time since laying out the drag, and gradually choose more difficult terrain.

Exercise: lost search
Lay out a dummy prepared with scent in easier terrain (the terrain should be easy for you to see - a meadow that is not too high or a sparse forest). Send the dog on the search with an appropriate command. Slowly increase the difficulty by choosing more difficult terrain and longer distances, and by incorporating time delays into the training.

Exercise: water work
Have the dog retrieve a duck dummy prepared with duck scent from the reeds of a body of water and slowly increase the difficulty by having the dog bring the dummy from the denser reeds or from the opposite bank.

Exercise: pointing
For more experienced pointing dogs, you can place a dummy prepared with scent in the field without laying a track. The dog should not be able to see you while doing this. Praise the dog as soon as he points the dummy.
